Monte’ S. Williams II
Designer, Artist, Photographer, Illustrator, Teacher
Monte’ Stephan Williams II was born in the urban industrial steel town of Gary, Indiana in 1981. Throughout his life, Monte’ has always been fascinated by colors, music, images, and how the world is represented through the eyes of others. Naturally, he was drawn to painting, drawing, and photography as a result of watching and shadowing his grandmother, a freelance painter, and craftsmen, in conjunction with his great aunt who was a very well known local jewelry maker. His interest in the arts was cultivated during his teenage years under the leadership of his high school art teacher, Larry Valem, who helped him further develop his creative intuition and fine arts appetite. Valem, was also responsible for introducing Monte’ to the evolutionary field of Graphic Design where he found love and became more committed to his passion for art and digital media.
Sparking the interest in high school, Monte’ opted to pursue his Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design and Digital Media at Ball State University after finishing two years at Ivy Tech Community College where he earned an Associates Degree in Industrial Technology and Sociology. After completing his degree at Ball State, Monte’ delved deeper into his photography and design practice, which involved politically sensitive topics, colorful comic-style superheroes, and sports icons. The images that Monte’ creates, are only part of the narrative. He uses the practice of meditation to visualize the direction of every project. It is a collaboration between the artist and energy. Monte’ cherishes this connection with nature. He feels that this artistic exchange between the land and the artist opens up many opportunities.
Monte’ has also trained as a teacher, specializing in Creative Education. He teaches High School Digital Arts in order to help students foster the same enthusiasm that he has for Visual Communication.
Monte’ has been selected as one of the innovative leaders in the community featured in Post Tribune (2011). In 2013, he was recognized as a quality instructor of the year for consistently producing quality work and meeting deadlines. His series of Marketing Advertisements called “Roadmap to Success” has been exhibited consecutively since 2007 in the Gary Community School Corporation and Post Tribune.
Monte’ lives in the Harbor of East Chicago with his wife and daughter and works in Hammond, Indiana surrounded by Lake Michigan, several forest preserves and Indiana Dunes National Park, where he meditates and creates opportunities of energy and connects with nature frequently
